Unshaded Moon - Hand-Burned Decorative & Functional Spoon

A crescent moon sits quietly at the heart of the bowl. Two curved lines, nothing more, clean, confident, and somehow exactly right. From there, a spiral unfurls downward like a held breath releasing, and the handle takes over entirely.

What Dani has done to that handle is genuinely hard to describe without sounding like you're exaggerating. The background has been burned almost completely dark, a rich, deep brown, and out of it emerge tangled vines, rolling waves, scattered flower heads, and curling tendrils. That all seem to grow around the wood rather than sit on it. There are tiny dot details tucked in between. The pattern shifts as it travels down the handle, so it never quite repeats itself. It wraps all the way around, covering every surface, finishing with a spiral at the very tip.

In terms of technique, this is pyrography - burning directly into beech wood using a heat pen. The dark background is the result of careful, sustained heat applied by hand, building up the tone gradually. It's time-consuming work, the sort where you can't rush a single section without the whole thing showing it. The moon itself is deliberately left un-shaded, which is where the name comes from. That contrast between the spare, light bowl and the dense, dark handle is the whole.

It holds its own next to anything - a witchy kitchen aesthetic, a farmhouse worktop, a shelf of ceramics and odd beautiful things. It also stirs soup perfectly well, which feels like a bonus at this point.

Hand made in Dani's studio in Hampshire. Sold as the single, unrepeatable object it is.

As each spoon is hand made, there is exactly one of these in the world, each spoon is special and unique, even if the Dini Doll pattern is the same. Once it's gone, it's gone.

This item has been treated with a food-safe, colorless, and odorless mineral oil which protects against moisture, stains, and cracking, requiring periodic reapplication for best results.

About The Artist

Dani works from a studio in Hampshire, across pyrography, oil painting, sculpture, textiles, and digital art. The common thread isn't a style or a material — it's a way of thinking. She starts with what she wants to say and works backwards to figure out what it should be made from. That approach keeps the work from ever sitting still, and it's why something like this spoon ends up feeling like a complete idea rather than a decorated object.
